About Satan (AKA Lucifer, The Devil, That Old Serpent, Dragon)
Satan, or the Devil or Lucifer as he is often called, is the adversary of God. Satan is evil personified. He will deceive man in any way he can. Being a spirit, Satan is neither male nor female. It is alleged that Lucifer and other spirits who followed him rebelled against God and were cast out from Eden (which was created on day 6) after Adam and Eve were created by their Creator. Lucifer became Satan and the fallen angels became Demons. Satan then set up his own kingdom in Hell and sent out devils to prowl the earth for converts.
Satan wanted to be God. The Bible tells us in 2nd Corinthians 4:4 that Satan has become the "god of this world". And Revelation 20:10 tells us that he will be eternally punished for it.
Polling has shown that belief in Satan as a living entity is most prevalent in the U.S. and Northern Ireland. However, these numbers are dropping in the U.S. From 1991 to 2007, belief in Satan as a living entity in the U.S. dropped from 35% to 24%.
Founded in April 1966, the First Church of Satan is an organization that upholds the writings, recordings, and videos of Anton LaVey, its founder and High Priest. The organization does not recognize the existence of Satan as an actual being but as a symbol representing materialism. In 1969, LaVey wrote the Satanic Bible, a collection of essays detailing the basic, fundamental Satanic rituals and ideology of the organization. Contrary to general belief, LaVey did not worship the Devil.
